The northwest: Grande Prairie and Whitecourt

Grande Prairie has two gaming venues. Great Northern Casino sits at 10910 107 Avenue, phone (780) 539-4454. PURE has run it since June 2026.

Wild Horse Casino & Lounge is a racetrack casino at Evergreen Park, 55051 Township Road 710, in Grande Prairie County. The Grande Prairie Regional Agricultural & Exhibition Society runs it. For a phone number, use the AGLC directory.

Whitecourt has Eagle River Casino & Travel Plaza, at the corner of Highway 43 and Highway 32 North. Its host First Nation is the Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation. The phone number is (780) 779-2727.

The northeast: Fort McMurray and Cold Lake

Rivers Casino & Entertainment Centre is at 9825 Hardin Street in Fort McMurray, phone (780) 790-9739. PURE has run it since June 2026. Casino Dene stands at Route 28 and Highway 897 in Cold Lake. It is a First Nations casino of Cold Lake First Nations, phone (780) 594-7900.

Which northern Alberta casinos changed owner in 2026?

Two northern venues changed hands. Great Northern Casino in Grande Prairie and Rivers Casino & Entertainment Centre in Fort McMurray passed to PURE. That came with PURE's purchase of Gamehost, completed on June 24, 2026. Since December 2024, PURE itself has been owned by Indigenous Gaming Partners.

Which northern venues are First Nations casinos?

Two of the five northern venues are. Casino Dene in Cold Lake is a First Nations casino of Cold Lake First Nations. Eagle River Casino & Travel Plaza at Whitecourt has the Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation as its host First Nation.
